Power Cordz von Io DuPont – Schalt- und Bremszüge aus Kunststofffasern.
Io DuPont, ein Hersteller aus Boise, Idaho – USA, produziert nach jahrelanger Forschungsarbeit und ausgiebigen Tests in Zusammenarbeit mit Herstellern von Synthetic-Fasern, die ersten Schalt- und Bremszüge für Mountainbikes und Rennräder aus Kunststoff.
Die Vorteile:
Die Züge aus Kunststofffasern dehnen sich nicht, eine Nachjustierung von Schaltung und Bremse entfällt daher.
Dank einer speziellen Oberflächenbeschichtung ist der Reibungswiderstand der Züge in den Zughüllen extrem gering. Daher sind auch sehr enge Radien bei der Verlegung der Züge möglich. Eine ausführliche Anleitung zum fachgerechten Einbau gibt es hier. Der eigentliche Vorteil liegt aber im geringen Gewicht. Ganze 7.5g für einen Schaltzug und rund 10g für einen Bremszug machen das System absolut konkurenzlos.
Trotz dieser scheinbar vielen Vorteile gibt es auch einige Nachteile. So sind die Züge nicht mit allen Brems- und Schaltsystemen kompatibel.
Auf der Website von Io DuPont gibt es ein pdf-file (1.3MB) mit einer Übersicht, welche Komponenten kompatibel und welche inkompatibel sind. Manche Bremssysteme bieten nicht genügend Klemmkraft, um die empfindlichen Fasern ausreichend zu sichern. Auch ist die Anfälligkeit gegen “Ausfransen†beim Einsatz von Power Cordz Zügen stärker gegeben, als bei normalen Edelstahlzügen.

Campagnolo Compatible Brake Cordz
Campagnolo compatible Brake Cordz have been in development since late spring. The expected demand for Campagnolo compatible Brake Cordz has been overwhelming. We produced some Campagnolo compatible Brake Cordz prototypes this summer and completed successful independent laboratory strength and fatigue testing. Campagnolo compatible Brake Cordz are now in production and will be available on November 1, 2006.Campagnolo Compatible (5mm/M5) Brake Clasp
As a result of testing, we have determined that our Shoulder Bolt Brake Clasp is the most secure way to connect Brake Cordz to a brake. Our current Brake clasp works with brakes that use a traditional cable anchor bolt with 6mm threads, for example newer Shimano Road Brakes and many MTB brakes. We have now developed a Brake Clasp for use with brakes that use a traditional cable anchor bolt with 5mm/M5 threads, for example Campagnolo brakes. The Campagnolo compatible Brake clasp will be available on November 1, 2006.
Nokon Compatible Liner
Nokon Housing is very popular due to its ability to resist compression better than traditional housing. Up until now, only Derailleur Cordz could be used with Nokon housing because the inside diameter of the Nokon liner was too small to accommodate Brake Cordz. We receive many inquiries about using the Cordz with Nokon housing so we went to work to resolve this compatibility issue and developed a new liner that will work with Nokon. Our Nokon compatible liner has a larger inside diameter accommodating both Derailleur Cordz and Brake Cordz. Our Nokon compatible liner is also stiffer than the original Nokon liner which means that it will resist sagging better when used with Shimano shift levers (which routes the shift cables out the side of the lever instead of under the bar tape like Campagnolo). The Nokon compatible liner will be available on November 1, 2006.
